Skirt Completed

Here's a complete review of the skirt that I completed:

Pattern Description: Very Easy Vogue 8541 – Out of Print – Misses’ Jacket, Skirt and Pants. Pull-on skirt C has back slit and elastic casing, length is mid-knee. I only made the skirt.

Pattern Sizing: 16-24. I made a 22, but I could have made it way smaller.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, but my skirt is more flared – I should have made a smaller size (or graded down at the hips).

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, mostly. The steps that were explained made sense and were easy to follow, but there was one step that they didn’t really explain at all. (I’ll be posting a question on the message board).

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I made it, I love it! Finished it Monday night and wore it to work on Tuesday morning. Oh, yeah!

Fabric Used: I used a black polyester crepe (about $4.85 per yard from Fabric.com).
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No changes made.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I will make it again. I would like to get a TNT skirt pattern, but with a better fit. This is only my 2nd completed garment since I started sewing again in December 2011, so I think it turned out great.

Conclusion: This pattern is out of print on the vogue website, but they had plenty in stock at my Joann’s during the last Vogue Pattern sale. I mainly wanted something that would be fairly quick and easy to put together as I get back into the habit of making clothes.

Learn to Crochet!

I purchased a Lion Brand "Learn to Crochet" kit.  It included the supplies (crochet hook, instructions, and purple yarn).  I followed the instructions included and I completed a purple scarf.  Oh, yeah!  This is my first completed crochet project.

The instructions were easy to follow and the process of creating the scarf was very relaxing.  I've worn the scarf a thousand times, but I can't ever seem to get a picture of it!

"Fashion Star"

OMG, I have a new favorite show!

"Fashion Star" is a new fashion reality show on NBC.  I really enjoyed the format - backstory of the designers, runway show, comments from mentors, and then, THE BUY (from Macy's, Saks and H&M).  And, I think this show really emphasized the importance of 3 letters - FIT!  Not, just making sure the clothes hang well on the models, but how these clothes will fit the end consumers.  Also, I LOVED seeing two African American buyers.

My favorite look of the night - Nzimiro's Mark Jacket.  When I saw the three looks of this jacket - I thought "it looks like it was made for H&M."  I guess I was right - Oh, yeah!

Congratulations, Mario on being saved by the mentors - I look forward to seeing more from you.  And, Farewell Nicholas - btw, Jessica Simpson wasn't the only person offended by your comment.

Birthday Celebration!

I just celebrated another birthday (yea, me!) and now, I'm enjoying some time off.  I was making crazy plans to do a thousand things (typical), but about a month ago - I decided to try something different (say what?).

For One Week

No Plans (when I wake up - I'll decide what it'll be).... Yesterday, that meant - going to the gym to workout, then going to my Wal-Mart (okay, I bought 3 new patterns), and, taking it easy the rest of the day.  And, last night (well, really early this morning - @ 4 a.m. I watched "Left Behind: World at War").  Why is the movies I want to see always come on at the craziest times.  Today, I'm taking it easy...And, tomorrow - well, who knows?  <Joann's has Vogue Patterns on sale - I'll be headed that way later in the week.>

No Alarms (I want to wake up naturally, and ease into my day).... But, it's hard to break habits, so I'm still waking up around 5 - I'm just going back to sleep.
